Marine Geophysical Survey

Marine geophysical work at THI covers 2D/3D High Resolution Marine Seismic, bathymetry, positioning, seabed imaging, geophysical logging, metocean support, and supporting field data services. The scope is selected around the survey objective, water depth, route or site condition, and required deliverables.

THI provides 2D/3D High Resolution Marine Seismic services for geohazard surveys and oil and gas exploration. The work combines high-technology acquisition systems, experienced personnel, efficient offshore operation, and integrated processing and interpretation.

Final processed HR 3D seismic volumes are prepared for high-quality, high-resolution interpretation so project teams can review shallow hazards, subsurface continuity, and exploration targets with greater confidence.

02 / Wireline CPT, sampling, coring, and downhole logging

Offshore Geotechnical Survey

Taka Hydrocore owns and operates geotechnical drilling rigs complete with heave compensated systems that can be installed on suitable vessels of opportunity. The rigs use standard 5.5-inch API drill pipe and can be configured for drilling, CPT, undisturbed sampling, coring, and downhole geophysical logging.

Wireline CPTu operations are performed with pore pressure measurement and field control aligned with ASTM D-5778, ISSMGE, British Standard, and ASTM practice. Real-time data acquisition allows the CPT engineer to monitor tip resistance, sleeve friction, pore pressure, inclination, and estimated soil properties during testing.

Downhole sampling is selected around soil condition, using hydraulic piston samplers for very soft to soft cohesive materials, push samplers for medium stiff to very stiff clay, thick-walled samplers for sand and hard clay, and triple core barrel systems for rock recovery. Samples are logged, photographed, protected, sealed, and prepared for laboratory transfer.

Nearshore & Onshore Geotechnical

03 / Shallow-water and land-based soil investigation

Nearshore & Onshore Geotechnical Survey

THI combines nearshore and onshore geotechnical capability for projects that move between land, coastal, intertidal, jetty, reclamation, river, and shallow-water environments. The method is selected around site access, water depth, tide, soil condition, platform requirement, and the level of investigation needed.

Nearshore work can use wooden staging or wooden platforms in very shallow water, and modular pontoon systems for deeper shallow-water investigation down to approximately 25 m. CPTu on pontoon can be conducted using downhole CPT systems, with development toward jack-up rig applications for deeper and more reliable operation.

Onshore geotechnical drilling is commonly supported by SPT, Pressuremeter Test, Field Vane Shear Test, and CPT or CPTu. Sampling tools are selected around soil behavior, including Osterberg fixed piston samplers for very soft to soft soils, Mazier core barrel systems for alternating layers, and triple core barrel systems for rock formations.

Exploratory Drilling

THI provides mining exploratory drilling services focused on high-quality coring, suitable equipment selection, and qualified field geologist or supervisor support. Drilling can be performed using conventional or wireline methods in NQ, HQ, or PQ size.

Depth is configured around the project requirement, typically from 20 m to 700 m, and can be extended depending on rig selection and site condition. Sampling standards can be aligned with client requirements, including resource reporting programs such as JORC-oriented workflows.

Hydrogeology Drilling

Hydrogeology drilling is intended to study groundwater behavior for environmental purposes, including landfill monitoring and pollution detection programs, as well as groundwater supply development.

THI has experience drilling and installing groundwater monitoring wells and water supply wells using PVC or stainless material. Installation diameter commonly ranges from 4-inch to 8-inch pipe, with depths from 20 m to 350 m and flow capacity that may exceed 55 m3/hour depending on aquifer condition.

06 / Seabed CPT and vibrocore investigation

Seabed Geotechnical

THI provides seabed geotechnical survey capability through Seabed CPT, vibrocore, piston core, and shallow sampling systems. The work supports projects that need direct seabed data, recovered sediment samples, and near-surface soil information before design or construction decisions are made.

The method is selected around water depth, target penetration, soil type, vessel spread, deployment window, and laboratory testing requirement. Each activity is prepared with deck handling, positioning, sample control, and documentation workflow so the recovered data can be traced from field operation to technical reporting.

Seabed investigation can support route and site assessment, marine infrastructure planning, cable and pipeline corridors, geohazard screening, near-surface soil interpretation, and laboratory follow-up after sample recovery.
